Serena walked over, Venus outplayed

The Williams sisters are officially out of the tournament in Rome (Italy).

Today, Serena walked over her quaterfinal match against french teenager, Alizé Cornet.

The 8th time Grand Slam champion claimed a back injury few minutes before the match. Cornet wasn’t asking that much to book her place in the semis, her best performance on clay so far. Cornet is the sensation of the tournament, after having ousted Svetlana Kuznetsova. Out of 5 matches on clay this  season, Cornet reach the semis for the 4th time! She will now face Russian Anna Chakvetadze.

Following her sister, Venus gave the best she could to defeat Jelena Jankovic in her quaterfinal match, unfortunately the serb prevailed. Score: 5/7 6/2 6/3.  Jankovic beats Williams for the 4th time out of 7 matches to reach the semis, where she could face new world number 1, Maria Sharapova or Patty Schnyder.

For the Williams’ sisters, the focus is on the French Open starting in 9 days…
